District 13 Meeting Minutes – 02/16/2021

In Attendance: Jim W., Michael, Steve B, Scott H, Mark C., John S., Debbie F., Daniel, Bob K, Sean K, Rick, Bre M., Mike R., Jimmy P., Lynn G., Randall F., Adam K.

Jim W opened the District Meeting and Jim chaired the Meeting. The meeting was opened with a quiet time followed by the Serenity Prayer and Responsibility Statement.

Steve B - Read Traditions 1, 2, 9 and 12.

  1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA Unity.

  2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority – a loving God as He may express himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.

9. A.A., as such, ought never be organized; but we may create service boards directly responsible to those they serve.

12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

Concepts 1 and 12 were read by Bob K

1. Final responsibility and ultimate authority for AA World Service should always reside in the collective conscience of our fellowship.

12. The conference shall observe the spirit of the AA tradition taking care that it never becomes the seat of perilous wealth or power; that sufficient operating funds and reserve be its prudent financial principle; that it place none of its members in a position of unqualified authority over others; that it reach all important decisions by discussion, vote, and whenever possible substantial unanimity; that its actions never be personally punitive nor an incitement to public controversy; that it never perform acts of government; that, like the society it serves, it will always remain democratic in thought and action.

Introductions were made and the sign in sheet was passed.

Jim W asked everyone to review minutes. Debbie F. Motioned, Passed.

**Special Guest Sean K. Area 19 Alternate Delegate to discuss overview of the 3 pre-GSC forums – 2 town halls and 1 mock conference. Plus Q&A

  • Conference to be held April 10th via zoom. Jim has flyer for registration for forum. “Mock conference” forum.

  • 2 Town halls: Monday 29th and then March 15th.

  • Materials to be sent out before the forums/town halls for those who are interested/registered

REPORTS:

Treasurer’s Report – Dan C.

  • Collected 449. Venmo picking up steam. Paid out 161.90. QR code set up and was sent out to everyone via email.

Zoom Committee- Tom D

  • Tom not here.

Finance Committee – Steve B.

  • Will have a report at March meeting.

Correctional Facilities Committee – Phil M.

  • Not in attendance.


Directory and Literature Committee – Vacant


Workshop Committee – Brian K.

  • Have a workshop in the pipeline. More to come on that.



Public Information Committee/ Cooperation with Professional Community Committee – Vacant


AA Grapevine Committee – John S

  • Grapevine looking for stories, photos, illustrations.

  • This month’s Grapevine Featured Section is “Sponsorship” Members share stories about the joys and challenges of sponsoring one another. Also included are powerful stories of hope by members during the current COVID-19 crisis.

  • Effective January 2021 Grapevine and La Viña magazines have implemented price changes. More detailed information available at www.aagrapevine.org/important-updates-aa-grapevine

  • Submit your stories for upcoming issues: Young & Sober – Did you come into AA at an early age? What was that like? Do you go to YPAA events? (stories due March 15)

  • More upcoming topics: Cooperation with Professionals (CPC); Remote Communities

  • The current La Viña issue special section is “The AA Home Group”

  • Submit your Spanish-language stories for: The Annual Prison Issue (due Mar 30); The family and AA (due May 30). La Viña is always looking for stories on individual steps and traditions

  • Grapevine has a Youtube channel! And can record your story www.youtube.com/aagrapevine

  • Step and discussion meeting at St. Marceline’s in Schaumburg



Hospitals and Treatment Facilities Committee. – Mike R

  • Amita/Saint Alexius is still closed to visitors and meetings

  • Daily Meetings still happening at Share! I am still facilitating with Ed H a Big Book read and comment meeting on Saturday afternoons at Share and as a Back up for a meeting on Wednesday afternoons also at Share! We have to split the group into 2 groups per CDC Guidelines!

  • Per the Area 19 Meeting - Haymarket in the City is getting literature but still closed to meetings! Saint Joseph Hospital in the City and saint joseph hospital and Northern Illinois Recovery Center (NIRC) are doing Zoom Meetings!


Committee on Conferences – Vacant



Special Accessibilities Committee – Randall

  • Craig (area chair) attended meeting on getting interpreters. We have a deaf member in our community so we want to make sure things are accessible for him/his needs are met.

  • Still working on how to bring meetings to nursing homes, blind community, deaf community, home-bound communities, etc.

  • Not here.

Secretary’s Report – Bre M

  • Trying to attend as many sharing sessions that are being offered.

  • Ironing out communications with Secretary—making sure all info gets out.

  • Will send Bre GSR list to start cleaning that up.
